DNA Testing
Where are we today...
Up until now, Genetic Diagnostics was mostly used for either, the identification of rare monogenic inherited diseases or applied to pharmaceutical research. However, through the significant progress made in genetic research (Human Genome) by worldwide renowned researchers and scientists during the last 30 years, genetic tests for preventive medicine have been possible and are now available since 2000 at our Austrian laboratory Genosense Diagnostics. Our in-house researchers have created individual and patient oriented genetic testing services for medical prevention.
Preventive DNA tests avialable today in lebanon...
Available today in Lebanon through Geno-Med, these very simple DNA tests, based on in-house scientific data-base, can evaluate an individual’s pre-disposition to certain diseases. Such precious information may play an essential role in the prevention of frequent diseases such as diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases as well as certain cancers for example. Using our DNA test results, physicians may use this information to alter a patients gene “expression” through medication, hormone treatment, lifestyle changes as well as an appropriate diet and nutritional supplements, thus, reducing or even preventing their patients’ potential health risks. Other than individuals with 1st & 2nd degrees family history of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, cancer, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, thrombosis and hypertension, these tests can be prescribed to everyone, regardless of his/her age since the main purpose of these DNA tests is DISEASE PREVENTION. The DNA test panels for preventive medicine involve the following medical fields: Nutrition, Pharmacology, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Andrology / Urology, Cardiology, Oncology, Endocrinology & General Medicine.

Basic Preventive Medicine for the health-conscious man!
NutriSensor

In this test we study the selected polymorphisms which:

  • Degrade toxic environmental substances into harmless products

  • Regulate potassium metabolism

  • Influence immune defence and ageing processes

  • Control lipid and glucose metabolism

  • Nutrigenetics / Nutrigenomics

Nowadays, we are surrounded by excessive varieties of different foods, of which some are healthy and others unhealthy.Having the freedom to make our own daily choices of nutrition is a blessing as well as a curse as it may increase the risk of over eating leading of obesity.

Nutregenetics/Nutregenomics is a new speciality in molecular medecine which evaluates the interactions between food and specific genetic variations. Now,we can determine which foods will increase or decrease the risk of developing a disease.

    Individual Drug Metabolism

Impaired drug metabolism is a major cause of adverse drug reactions (ADRs).Drug metabolismmay be impaired if variations in genes that code for drug-metabolizing enzymes are present. Such genetic variations may lead to ADRs such as reduced drug efficacy and/or increased drug toxicity.
Thus, detection of genetic variants related to drug metabolizing enzymes may be useful for predicting or explaining an ADR.

    PharmacoSensor

Provides information about your personal genetic tolerance of medication:

In this test we study the selected polymorphisms which:

  • Strongly influence the speed of metabolism of very many prescribed drugs

  • Account for accelerated or reduced transformation of harmless precursors of           given medications into highly efficient substances.

Basic Preventive Medicine for the health-conscious Woman!
    Hormone-Replacement Therapy & Breast Cancer

The great advances in medicine in the past few years are making it increasingly possible to provide women with individualized gynecological treatment strategies especially in hormone replacement therapy.

    FemSensor 40+
Evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of hormone replacement therapy, HRT, by considering your genetic predisposition to: breast cancer, bone metabolism (osteoporosis), thrombosis, cancer and long-term exposure to estrogens. This test looks at selected polymorphisms which lead to structural changes in proteins that:

  • Regulate the metabolism of female sex hormones

  • Influence bone metabolism

  • Accelerate or slow down the body’s ability to breakdown and eliminate toxins

  • Influence blood clotting

  • Affect lipid cholesterol metabolism

  • With this information your doctor can:

  • Give advice specifically tailored to you, for disease prevention and longevity

  • Choose for you a customized HRT treatment which suits you best, thus reducing     harmful side effects.

  • Advise you on the small but specific changes that you can make in your lifestyle     that will greatly affect your health and happiness

    FemSensor Pregnancy
Evaluates the risks of pregnancy complications, such as:
preeclampsia, gestosis, thrombosis and therefore the risk of recurrent miscarriages. This test looks at selected polymorphisms which lead to structural changes in proteins that:

  • Control the fluid balance in human tissue

  • Are co-responsible for the elasticity of blood vessels

  • Influence the decrease of a vessel damaging metabolic product

  • Are mainly responsible for the homeostasis of blood clotting

  • With this information your doctor can:

  • Give a tailored medical treatment for the prevention of disorders regarding the       homeostasis of blood clotting

  • Give a tailored medical treatment for the prevention of hypertension

  • Advise you on the small but specific changes that you can make in your lifestyle     that will greatly affect your health and happiness

    AndroSensor
Evaluates the risk of prostate cancer as well as the risk for thrombosis, osteoporosis, metabolic imbalances of detoxification and chronic inflammation. This test looks at selected polymorphisms which lead tostructural changes in proteins that:

  • Regulate the metabolism of male sex hormones

  • Influence bone metabolism

  • Are influential in maintaining the shape and structure of your blood vessels

  • Have an effect on your blood's clotting mechanisms

  • Regulate the composition of circulating lipids

  • Limit the degree of inflammatory processes

  • Accelerate or slow down the body’s ability to breakdown and eliminate toxins

  • Prostate Cancer:

No single cause of prostate cancer has been identified. There are likely a variety of causes and contributing factors that lead to prostate cancer. The major known risk factors for prostate cancer are age, race and family history.

    CardioSensor Premium
Evaluates the risk profile of the most common cardiovascular diseases (arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, stroke and the risk regarding obesity and imbalances in lipid metabolism).

This test looks at polymorphisms that influence the following:

  • Lipid metabolism

  • Food absorption and energy production

  • The regulation and growth of the heart muscle cells

  • Blood's clotting mechanisms

  • Elasticity of blood vessels

  • Cardio-vascular Diseases

Classic risk factors, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, lipid profile, poor diet, alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of exercise and stress play an important role in coronary heart disease.

However, recent studies show that besides physiological risk factors, the individual genetic predisposition significantly contributes to the development of CVD.
